Digital Education for South Africa

In South Africa, 78% of grade 4 learners are functionally illiterate, meaning students at this age do not know how to read or write. Read to Rise is a non-profit organization that promotes youth literacy in under-resourced communities in South Africa.

Their hope is to inspire children to read through fun, interactive class programs and provide children books for them to own. Established in 2013, and to the date, the organization has conducted over 5.100 class programmes and given out over 226.000 new story books.

Mitchells Plain Primary School is situated in Mitchells Plain, a township in Western Cape, South Africa where our project will take place. This project will provide 100 learners with the O-Lab app, so they can have access to books and improve their reading and comprehension skills while at home.
